In New York City, design is not only about what you see. It is about how you live. The city’s architecture tells a story of constant reinvention, where every line, texture, and reflection reveals both heritage and ambition. Yet one element often overlooked in the broader design conversation is the window. It is the portal through which light, privacy, and emotion all enter a home.
For more than a decade, Moria Elul, founder and creative director of Alluring Window, has been redefining how New Yorkers experience their interiors. Her studio has become known for sophisticated, handcrafted window treatments that combine craftsmanship, innovation, and timeless design.
A Vision Shaped by Light

Q: Moria, take us back to the beginning. What inspired the creation of Alluring Window?
I always had a love for interior design, but I noticed that window treatments were often treated as an afterthought. Yet in New York, light defines everything. The way sunlight hits a wall or reflects off a building across the street changes the entire feeling of a room. I wanted to create a company that celebrates that connection between light and space. Alluring Window started from that passion for detail and the belief that a well-designed window can transform how a person feels in their home.
At first, we took on small residential projects, and word spread quickly. New Yorkers appreciate quality, and they can immediately see the difference when something is custom-made. That early support helped us grow naturally into a trusted name in the design world.
Designing for a City That Never Rests
Q: What makes the New York market so distinctive for your work?
New York clients are demanding in the best possible way. They value both beauty and precision. Every space here presents its own challenges. You might design for a glass penthouse one week and for a century-old brownstone the next. The architecture changes, the light changes, even the way people use their spaces changes from one project to another.
There is also a balance we constantly need to find between privacy and openness. People want natural light and views, but they also need a sense of intimacy and calm. That is where thoughtful design and customization make all the difference.
A Blend of Technology and Art
Q: How has technology influenced the world of window treatments?
Technology has become an essential part of our work. More clients are asking for motorized window treatments that integrate with their smart homes. They want shades that adjust automatically depending on the time of day or temperature. It makes life easier and also helps regulate energy use.
But while technology has transformed the way we live, people are also returning to natural textures and classic beauty. Linen, silk, and organic cotton are very popular again. Clients want to feel softness and warmth in their spaces. It is not only about function, it is about atmosphere.
The Power of Customization
Q: What defines the Alluring Window approach?
It always starts with listening. We spend time understanding how each client lives, how they move through their home, and how they want to feel when they enter a room. From there, we design every detail to fit their lifestyle.
Our team pays close attention to proportion and texture. We do not impose a style; we collaborate. I think the reason people connect with our work is because it feels personal. When a project is finished and the light filters in exactly as it should, you can sense that the space was designed with intention.
Sustainability and Responsibility
Q: Sustainability is shaping many design conversations today. How do you approach it in your work?
It has become a priority for us. We are always exploring new eco-conscious materials and working with suppliers who share that commitment. A window treatment can do more than look beautiful. The right fabric or lining can help insulate a space, which reduces heating and cooling costs.
Design should not only please the eye, it should make life better and more responsible. Many of our clients are more conscious of that, and it motivates us to innovate constantly.
Inspiration in the City
Q: After years of working in New York, what continues to inspire you?
The city itself never stops inspiring me. The architecture, the people, the light that changes with every season, it all feeds creativity. No two projects are ever the same, and that keeps me curious.
What I love most is the transformation. When the final fabric is installed and sunlight fills the room for the first time, there is this quiet, emotional moment where everything comes together. It reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
Looking Forward
Alluring Window continues to grow and evolve, working with both homeowners and designers who share a passion for refined living. For Moria, the mission remains constant: to create spaces that feel effortless, personal, and full of light.
“Window treatments are more than fabric and function,” she says. “They shape the way people experience their home. When light moves through a space beautifully, it changes everything.”
