Forbes and Bloomberg do not track Belfort, and he is not a billionaire or anywhere near one. Any figure you see is an estimate. The useful numbers are the ones that came out in court: what he was ordered to pay, what he paid, and what he earned along the way.

Did Jordan Belfort pay back his victims?

Only a small part. Belfort said in July 2026, "I completed my court-ordered restitution," TMZ reported. What ended, though, was the legal duty to pay, not the debt. Federal law ends liability for criminal restitution 20 years after the judgment or after release from prison, whichever is later, and Belfort left prison on April 28, 2006. TMZ's sources put the end of the obligation on April 28, 2026.

How the payments went, from the court record as reported:

  • 2007 to 2009: He owed 50% of his gross income while on supervised release. He paid $382,910 in 2007, $148,799 in 2008 and $170,000 in 2009.
  • 2010: Nothing, according to prosecutors.
  • 2013 onward: After a judge ruled the 50% rule ended with his supervision, Belfort agreed to pay at least $10,000 a month.
  • May 2018: Prosecutors called him a "deadbeat" in a court filing and tried to garnish his income. They counted about $12.8 million collected, mostly from property he gave up at sentencing, and about $97 million still owed. His lawyer disputed the government's figures.

No final public accounting has been released, so the total repaid is an estimate. Celebrity Net Worth put it at about $13.75 million in July 2026, roughly 12% of the $110.4 million ordered.

How much did Jordan Belfort make at Stratton Oakmont?

Celebrity Net Worth says he made about $50 million in his best year, but no audited record of his personal income exists. What is documented is the scale of the fraud: his pump-and-dump schemes caused investor losses of about $200 million, and the court set restitution at $110.4 million.

How does Jordan Belfort make money now?

From speaking, sales training and books. Prosecutors said in 2018 that he earned at least $9 million from speaking engagements between 2013 and 2015. He sells a sales-training program built on his "Straight Line" method and has published several books since 2007, including Way of the Wolf and The Wolf of Investing. Prosecutors' 2018 filing also cited income from a building-design business.

How long was Jordan Belfort in prison?

22 months. He was sentenced to four years on July 18, 2003, and served 22 months at Taft Correctional Institution in California in exchange for cooperating with the FBI against other brokers. He was released on April 28, 2006.

How I checked these numbers

Belfort's finances are private, so I used only what came out of his criminal case: the 2003 restitution order, prosecutors' filings as reported by Bloomberg, and his own July 2026 statement. The $1 million net worth and the $13.75 million total repaid are Celebrity Net Worth estimates and are labeled that way.
