01 / THE RESEARCH

Before Cursor: three appearances, one medal: the official record

The official results list Asif representing Pakistan in 2016, 2017 and 2018. His scores were 11, 18 and 4 points. Only 2017 carries a medal: bronze, at tied rank 139. Three appearances are not three medals, and this record does not support a silver-medal claim.

The official tables distinguish participating from receiving an award. In 2016 and 2018, Asif’s award field is blank. In 2017, it records bronze. This is the reproducible correction behind the biography. It does not explain his later company ownership or imply a relationship between an Olympiad score and founder wealth.

His founding relationship is enough to examine the company story. A profile can document an early technical environment without making age, rankings or national wealth records central. Those details need independent evidence and are not substitutes for an ownership investigation.

02 / THE RESEARCH

Cursor: the merger changed the company relationship

The closing filing says Anysphere survives as a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary. That directly establishes the company-level ownership transition. It does not describe every cofounder’s continuing operating role or personal holdings. We leave the post-close title unverified.

A former private shareholder receiving acquirer securities has a different economic exposure after closing. The value can depend on the acquiring business and the security’s market or transfer terms. An old percentage of Cursor cannot describe that exposure completely. The personal allocation and subsequent transactions remain necessary inputs.

The filing separates shareholder consideration from vested and unvested employee awards. Our profile of Aman Sanger discusses the aggregate buckets in detail. The distinction applies to Asif’s reconstruction too. A company-wide share pool is not a personal ownership schedule.

03 / THE RESEARCH

Cursor: the interview reveals a product criterion

In the Cursor team interview, Asif discusses the difficulty of presenting suggested code changes intuitively. He describes interface iterations and the importance of how users encounter a suggestion. This is first-person evidence of product judgment, not a verified measure of developer productivity.

My read: interface clarity affects the cost of reviewing generated code. A model can make a useful suggestion that a user struggles to understand. If the review process becomes distracting, some of the possible productivity gain disappears. The business therefore needs both model capability and an effective interaction design.

That makes the origin story more useful than a generic young-founder narrative. The interview identifies a concrete problem the team worked on. It also shows uncertainty during iteration. A successful later valuation should not make those experiments appear predetermined or effortless.

THE RECORD AND MY READ

Cursor: what a product decision can change financially

The competition record is a useful biography correction because it is exact and independently reproducible. A founder does not need an embellished medal record to make a valuable product. The economic question is what the company enabled users to do, and what it could charge for that improvement.

My read: the product interface can be an economic asset even when underlying model suppliers remain outside the company. The editor must connect suggestions to a working codebase and fit the user’s habits. That creates a different task from improving a model’s benchmark score. Good interaction design can reduce the effort needed to obtain a useful result. It cannot eliminate the need to review code.

For the transaction from another founder’s perspective, our Aman Sanger profile examines the issued-share categories. Together with the Cursor ownership file, it shows why four cofounders should not be assigned equal proceeds by default. Equality would require evidence of their holdings and security rights.

THE RECORD AND MY READ

Cursor’s financing records separate capital raised from recurring revenue

Cursor’s August 2024 Series A announcement records $60 million raised and more than 40,000 customers. The January 2025 Series B account records another $105 million and more than $100 million in recurring revenue. Funding and recurring revenue are distinct measures.

The June 2025 Series C announcement records $900 million raised at a $9.9 billion valuation, alongside more than $500 million in ARR. My calculation: the three disclosed raises sum to $1.065 billion. That is company financing across those rounds, not founder wealth or lifetime funding. The revenue descriptions do not supply an audited growth multiple.

The November 2025 Series D announcement adds $2.3 billion at $29.3 billion post-money. My calculation: $60 million + $105 million + $900 million + $2.3 billion = $3.365 billion across four announced rounds. This sum measures company financing, not the founder’s proceeds or current cash.

THE WEALTH FILE

Sualeh Asif net worth in 2026

Forbes estimates Sualeh Asif net worth at $2.8 billion on October 12, 2026. It separately estimates the value each cofounder received in SpaceX shares at closing. The August 14, 2026 filing establishes a $60 billion implied Cursor equity value but not Asif’s allocation. I exclude an unreviewed Bloomberg comparison and do not infer his percentage from equal cofounder wealth estimates. The year-end 2025 Forbes report put the estimate at $1.3 billion. The later estimate reflects a different valuation context; the gap is not a measured cash gain.

Questions about Sualeh Asif

What is Sualeh Asif’s net worth?

Forbes estimates $2.8B on 2026-10-12. This dated personal estimate is separate from the company’s valuation and is not an audited balance sheet.

How rich are Cursor founders?

Forbes estimates Asif at $2.8 billion in October 2026 and describes estimated SpaceX shares received at closing. The merger filing gives aggregate consideration, not each founder’s allocation.

SpaceX’s August 14, 2026 filing gives a $60 billion implied equity value for its acquisition of Anysphere. That transaction value is separate from Asif’s current personal total.

Did Sualeh Asif win three IMO medals?

The official 2016, 2017 and 2018 results distinguish appearances from medals: his 2017 result is bronze, while the award fields for 2016 and 2018 are blank. Calling all three appearances medals would misread the records.
