That makes In-N-Out one of the largest American restaurant chains still owned by a single person.

Snyder is the daughter of Guy Snyder, Harry and Esther's younger son. She is the sole beneficiary of the family trusts, which released the company to her in stages: her father's 50% stake at 30, and near-full control at 35. The Los Angeles Times valued her inheritance at $450 million in 2006. Day-to-day decisions run through a seven-member executive team.

Is In-N-Out publicly traded?

No. There is no In-N-Out stock, and the company has never franchised a restaurant. Every location is company-owned. The company has said it stays private and unfranchised to protect food quality and consistency, and Snyder has said she does not intend to sell or franchise.

Is In-N-Out moving to Tennessee?

Snyder is, but the headquarters is staying in California. In July 2025 she said her family was moving to Franklin, Tennessee, where In-N-Out is building an eastern office announced in January 2023 as a $125.5 million investment. Days later she said, "We're not moving In-N-Out Burger's corporate headquarters." The company is consolidating its California offices from Irvine back to Baldwin Park, its birthplace, by 2030.

Since nearly all of Snyder's fortune is In-N-Out, Forbes' net worth figure is the closest thing to a current public valuation of the chain.

How many In-N-Out locations are there?

In-N-Out lists about 424 restaurants in 10 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington, with New Mexico planned by 2027, according to the company summary on Wikipedia. Because the chain is private, that count is not audited.

How I checked this

Ownership and the inheritance schedule come from the In-N-Out and Lynsi Snyder histories on Wikipedia, which cite the Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg and Forbes. The Tennessee move comes from Snyder's July 2025 statements as reported by Deseret News and Fox Business. In-N-Out is private, so no filing confirms its value; I use Forbes' estimate of the owner's wealth and say so.
