Key takeaways

  • Lovable was founded in 2023 in Stockholm and is founder-controlled: CEO Anton Osika and CTO Fabian Hedin each hold roughly 24%, per Forbes.
  • Its valuation reached $13.3 billion in the Series C that closed August 12, 2026 — up from $6.6 billion just eight months earlier.
  • It is not owned by Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI. Big-Tech-affiliated funds are minority investors, and Lovable builds on top of frontier AI models via API.
  • Both founders have pledged to give away 50% of any exit proceeds to charity and AI-safety causes.
  • Lovable's cap table is a geopolitical curiosity: Alphabet's CapitalG, China's Tencent, and an EU sovereignty fund all sit on it.

This article draws on Lovable's own funding announcements, Forbes' reporting on the founders' stakes, and coverage from Bloomberg, TechCrunch and Sifted. Full source list at the bottom.

Who owns Lovable?

Lovable is a private company, so there is no public share register — but Forbes has published the number that matters. It estimates the two co-founders each own about 24% of the company, or roughly 48% combined. At the $6.6 billion valuation of late 2025, that put each founder's stake near $1.6 billion; at the current $13.3 billion mark, the same share is worth roughly double, on the order of $3 billion each (that last figure is simple arithmetic on the new valuation, not a Forbes-published number).

The rest of the company is held by venture investors, none of whom hold a controlling position. That founder-heavy ownership is the whole story here: most AI companies at this valuation have already handed the majority of their equity to outside capital.

The two founders

Anton Osika (CEO) studied engineering physics at KTH, worked at CERN, was an early engineer at Sana Labs, and previously co-founded Depict.ai. He then created the open-source GPT Engineer project — an AI coding tool that gathered tens of thousands of GitHub stars and became the seed of Lovable. Fabian Hedin is the co-founder and CTO. (Some write-ups list him as CFO; Lovable's own materials and Forbes both say CTO.) At 26, Hedin has been described as one of Europe's youngest self-made billionaires.

Both founders have publicly pledged to give away 50% of whatever they make in an eventual exit, directed toward charity and toward making sure the transition to more powerful AI "goes well" — an unusual commitment at this scale, and part of why the ownership picture is worth telling straight.

What is Lovable, and what is "vibe coding"?

To understand why investors are paying $13.3 billion for a two-year-old company, it helps to know what it sells. Lovable lets people build working web apps and sites by describing them in plain language — you type what you want, and an AI writes and wires up the code. The industry's nickname for this is "vibe coding": building software by describing the vibe rather than writing every line. The pitch is that it collapses the distance between having an idea and shipping a product, opening software creation to millions of people who cannot code.

That is also why Lovable's ownership story is unusually clean. The product is largely software and models — it does not need the enormous data-center build-outs that force companies like OpenAI and Anthropic to take tens of billions from hyperscalers and hand over big economic stakes. Lovable could scale on comparatively little capital, which is precisely how its founders kept roughly a quarter of the company each.

The funding ladder

Lovable's rise is one of the fastest on record. The rounds, dated:

  • Pre-Series A — February 2025: $15 million, led by Creandum.
  • Series A — July 2025: $200 million at a $1.8 billion valuation, led by Accel, with Harry Stebbings' 20VC among the participants.
  • Series B — December 18, 2025: $330 million at $6.6 billion, co-led by Alphabet's CapitalG and Menlo Ventures' Anthology fund, with NVIDIA's NVentures, Salesforce Ventures, Databricks Ventures, Atlassian Ventures and HubSpot Ventures joining.
  • Series C — closed August 12, 2026: $400 million at $13.3 billion, led by Menlo Ventures and co-led by the EU's Scaleup Europe Fund (managed by EQT), with Tencent and new Latin American and Asian investors joining.

Look closely at that cap table and you see something geopolitically odd: Alphabet's CapitalG (US Big Tech), Tencent (China), and an EU sovereignty vehicle all backing the same Swedish company. In an era of AI nationalism, Lovable is owned across every major bloc at once — while its founders keep control.

Why founder control is the real story

Add up four rounds in eighteen months — $15 million, then $200 million, then $330 million, then $400 million — and the surprising part is not how much Lovable raised but how little of the company that cost the founders. Each financing dilutes existing shareholders, yet Forbes still pegs Osika and Hedin at roughly 24% each. Two things make that possible: the rounds were priced at rapidly rising valuations, so each new dollar bought a smaller slice, and the business is capital-light enough that Lovable never had to sell control to fund compute.

The result is a governance picture that looks more like a classic software company than a frontier-AI lab. There is no nonprofit foundation, no benefit-corporation trust, no nonvoting-Big-Tech backer with a hundred-billion-dollar position — the structures you find at OpenAI and Anthropic. At Lovable, the two people who built it are still, by a wide margin, its largest owners. Whether they keep that lead through the next round, or an eventual IPO, is the thing to watch.

Is Lovable owned by Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI?

Not Google. CapitalG is Alphabet's independent growth fund, and it is a minority Series B co-lead — an investor, not an owner. It holds no controlling stake and the founders remain the largest shareholders.

Not Anthropic or OpenAI. Neither appears on Lovable's cap table. The relationship runs the other way: Lovable's product is built on top of frontier models from companies like Anthropic and OpenAI, which it accesses through their APIs. That is a real dependency — Lovable's costs and capabilities move with its model suppliers — but it is a customer relationship, not ownership.

The growth story behind the valuation

The valuation makes more sense next to the revenue. Lovable's product launched publicly in November 2024 and, by its own account, became the fastest software startup to reach $100 million in annual recurring revenue, about eight months later. It reported $200 million ARR by November 2025 and roughly $400 million ARR by February 2026, with reporting around the Series C pointing to about $500 million by mid-2026, all achieved with a strikingly small team. That trajectory, more than any single investor, is what put the founders' ~24% stakes into billion-dollar territory.

FAQ

Who owns Lovable?

Its two founders, Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin, who each hold roughly 24% (about half the company between them), plus a set of minority venture investors.

Is Lovable owned by Google?

No. Alphabet's CapitalG is a minority growth investor from the Series B, with no controlling stake.

Does Lovable use OpenAI or Anthropic?

Yes, as a customer. Lovable builds on top of third-party frontier models via API. Neither OpenAI nor Anthropic owns any part of it.

How much is Lovable worth?

$13.3 billion as of the Series C that closed August 12, 2026, up from $6.6 billion in December 2025.

Can I buy shares in Lovable?

Not publicly. Lovable is a private company with no stock ticker, so buying in is limited to venture and accredited secondary markets. The founders and their venture backers hold the equity.
